Pantone 2022: Very Peri and the Bags to Match

In early December, Pantone named Very Peri its color of the year: a purple hue with violet-red undertones and a slight quality of blue. Lilac had already been a massive fashion trend through 2021 across clothing, makeup and handbags, and the 2022 pick pushed purple further. Here are four bags in the family.

Why did Pantone choose Very Peri?

The press release stated that the color was chosen with intent, reflecting what is taking place culturally. Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, said that creating a new color for the first time in the history of the Pantone Color of the Year educational color program reflects the global innovation and transformation taking place.

What is the Very Peri mission statement?

Pantone summed the shade up in one line: "A New Pantone Color Whose Courageous Presence Encourages Personal Inventiveness And Creativity." The claim doubled as a styling brief for the season: colour as a statement of personal inventiveness rather than a trend to follow.

Which bags match the purple moment?

  • Chanel Classic Flap ML: the lilac purple take on the house classic.
  • Balenciaga City: a purple edition of the slouchy icon.
  • Prada Promenade: a structured satchel in the Very Peri spirit.
  • Louis Vuitton Figari PM: a compact purple piece for resort dressing.

Each of the four sits in the lilac to violet family that Very Peri sits at the center of, which makes any of them a match for the moment.
