Chanel's November 2021 Price Increase Explained

Chanel raised prices again on November 3, 2021, with an expected 12 to 15 percent increase on Classic Flaps, following a July 1 adjustment that lifted every Classic Flap size by roughly 15 percent. Sales associates confirmed the increase to our team before it took effect.

How much did prices rise?

Earlier estimates pointed to 5 to 10 percent, and the final figure looked higher at 12 to 15 percent. The July increase had already moved every Classic Flap size by about 15 percent, and together the two rounds put the Classic Flap close to the retail price of a Hermès Birkin. The increases over the past few years have been astronomical, and this round continued the pattern. Flaps were also getting harder to find in boutiques.

Why does this matter for pre-loved buyers?

The November 3 prices applied everywhere, including the pre-loved market. If you were looking for a Classic Flap, buying sooner made sense, and a flap that was hard to find in stores pushed more buyers toward trusted pre-owned sellers. Luxe Du Jour carries a large Chanel collection with hundreds of new arrivals, kept diverse and reasonably priced.

Should you consign instead?

With increases landing rapidly, it was also a strong moment to consign and sell a bag at a premium price. The same force that lifts retail prices lifts the value of what is already in your closet, and consignors got to set their own moment.

Shop authenticated Chanel bags, start a quote through consign and sell, or watch new arrivals for the next classic flap.
