Cartier Price Increase: What Collectors Should Know

Cartier silver Love bracelet with screw motif and small screwdriver in red Cartier box

Cartier president and CEO Cyrille Vigneron told Bloomberg to expect a 3 to 5 percent price increase, aimed at offsetting the cost of materials such as gold, diamonds and platinum. For anyone eyeing a Cartier piece, buying now, or through the pre-loved market, gets a better rate. Here is what collectors should know.

What did Cartier announce?

The hint of a 3 to 5 percent increase came during a recent interview with Bloomberg, where Vigneron spoke about the cost of materials like gold, diamonds and platinum. The president and CEO of Cartier framed the increase as a way to offset those costs rather than react to demand. That makes the timing of a purchase the part collectors can still control.

Why the Love Bracelet?

Love bracelets were referred to as the "Modern Love Handcuff", and it was rumored that Cartier never let anyone buy the cuff for themselves: you had to buy them in pairs, which only added to the mystique. Rose gold and white gold versions were both listed on the Luxe Du Jour site at the time of writing, which gives collectors two ways into the shape.

Buy now or go pre-loved?

The recommendation was simple: if you would like to purchase Cartier, buy now, and in the pre-loved market you will get an even better rate, on the same craftsmanship the house is known for. Either way, the sooner the decision, the better the position.
